Our Travel Adventures - Cruising Fulltime

Welcome to the Adventures of Larry and Connie Farquhar as we cruise fulltime around the world.

Goal of 50 States Reached!

National Museum of the US Air Force

Kudos To Us! Last month, I forgot to congratulate ourselves on our 15th anniversary of traveling full time in a motorhome! We sold our house in Arizona (and about everything else) and moved into our motorhome on September 9th, 2004. We've been having so much fun and new adventures with this lifestyle we don't when (or if) we'll ever stop. But who knows what the future holds for us. Tonight, we als...

From Michigan Into Indiana

Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI

From the Bay County Fairgrounds, we headed back west to the shore of Lake Michigan at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Park), MI. We had reservations at Platte River Campground for an electric site. Generators aren't allowed in this campground, but most sites have electricity. This National Park is known best for the feature which the park is named, the perched sand dunes ...

Touring Michigan, Part Two

Mackinac Bridge Viewed From Fort Mackinac

Before leaving Sault Ste. Marie, we toured the Museum Ship Valley Camp. The Museum Ship Valley Camp was built in 1917 and retired in 1966. After 1966, the 550 foot long freighter was permanently docked on historic Water Street and transformed into a museum. The Valley Camp offers more than just a tour of her deck. Visitors can explore the wheelhouse, sleeping quarters, and her cargo hold which now...

Touring Michigan, Part One

Lake Superior, U.P, MI

The day before we were scheduled to leave Potawatami State Park, we got "busted" for running the generator, We got through the busy weekend with a full campground with no issues. But on Tuesday, when the campground was almost empty the ranger stopped to "talk" to me about running the generator. He was nice and understanding, especially after I pointed out that there were no signs stating no genera...

Touring Wisconsin

North Point Lighthouse, Milwaukee, WI

After leaving the Sugar Bottom Corps of Engineer Campground in Iowa, we headed north into Wisconsin. This is another state we've never spent the night in, so it gets marked off the "bucket list"! We're now down to only 5 US states left that we've never spent the night in together. Our fist destination in Wisconsin was the Pine View Recreation Area operated by the US Army at Fort McCoy, near Sparta...

Visiting Minnesota and Iowa

Lake Superior North Shore Scenic Drive, MN

Wow! We've picked up the pace and have visited many places in these past couple of weeks! After the Corps of Engineer park near Minot, ND, we moved further east to Grand Forks AFB and stayed in their nice FamCamp (Family Campground). This is a quiet campground located in a back portion of the base. It's the kind of place we enjoy staying at. During our 3-day stay here, we visited the Ronald Reagan...

Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Site, ND

Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Museum

While visiting Malmstrom AFB, in Montana, I visited their on-base museum. Malmstrom AFB's mission is now only to maintain 150 Minuteman III missiles. When I first started in the US Air Force, my first assignment was to F.E. Warren AFB, whose only mission is also to maintain 150 Minuteman Missiles. I asked at the Malmstrom AFB base if there were any missile silos that were open for tours and I lear...

Hanging Out in North Dakota

Scandinavian Heritage Park

We got lucky! The weather cleared up and we had a perfect afternoon and evening for the Pitchfork Fondue and the Medora Musical. The food at the Pitchfork Fondue was pretty good. And yes, they do deep-fry the steaks on a large pitch fork. Dinner included a buffet of baked potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, garlic bread, salad items, a brownie, and lemonade. The Medora Musical was next doo...

Slowly Moving East into North Dakota

Great Falls, MT

We enjoyed our 5 days at the Malmstrom AFB Gateway FamCamp, MT. We took a day drive to Helena to visit the Fort Harrison RV Park and also searched and found the actual "Great Falls" in Great Falls, MT. I say "found", as they are not well publicized. It's a small road to find the falls, north of town. These falls are also known as "Big Falls". We also enjoyed a day at the Lewis and Clark Interpreti...

Glacier National Park, MT

Glacier National Park, MT

After leaving the Rexford Bench USFS Campground near Eureka, MT, we headed to the Sundance RV Park in Coram, MT. Even at $45 a night, it was one of the least expensive RV parks near the west entrance to Glacier National Park. Not a great RV Park, but it worked fine for our needs. We were only a few miles from the West side of Glacier National Park. The famous "Going to the Sun" road wasn't ye...
