My First Dronie

My First Aerial Photo/Video

While boondocking near Borrego Springs, CA, I had a chance to experiment with my new 3DR Iris+ drone "quadcopter". One of the features of this system is the ability to make a quick "dronie". This is a "selfie" video made by the drone. Larry's brother, Rocky, came in to visit for the afternoon. Luckily, he had the necessary "GoPro" camera, which I haven't yet purchased. We hooked up the camera to t...

Teslin Lake Campground, Yukon, Canada

Teslin Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada

Here's a short aerial video of Teslin Lake Government Campground in the Yukon Territory, Canada. I filmed this with my 3DR Iris+ quadcopter (drone), using a GoPro Hero 3+ camera. I'm still learning how to best make these videos. This video was made using a GPS assisted "loiter" mode, which created much of the jitters. The Drone kept wanting to adjust itself to remain in the correct locat...

Alaska Adventure - Weeks 11, 12 and 13

From our last post we were still in Fairbanks for another 5 days. We didn't sit around doing nothing, we knew of some Boomer RV friends who were coming into Fairbanks and we arranged a trip to Chena Hot Springs, which is about 50 miles northeast of Fairbanks (July 29). This was one of my must see and do items on our Alaska trip. We started off our visit purchasing our tickets for their Ice Museum....

Burns Lake Municipal Campground, B.C., Canada

Burns Lake, B.C, Canada

During our return trip from Alaska, we stopped for the night at the Burns Lake Municipal Campground in British Columbia, Canada. This is a free city operated campground on the lake. There's a 3 night stay limit. This is a very nice little park. We arrived around 2:00pm and were the only campers there. There's about 7 sites available, and room for a couple more RV's in the parking lot. A few hours ...

Portland & Seattle

Wow, it's hard to believe that Larry posted only two weeks ago, it seems like that was such a long time ago since we were in Klamath Falls. We enjoyed our little day trip to Crater Lake NP. We were very lucky and took the south entrance, come to find out that was the only entrance that was open. Since it was early in the season, things weren't quite open yet. In fact it was free to enter the park ...

Our Alaska Trip Begins

Connie had a great time with daughter Leslie and grand-daughters Kaylee and Khloe at their "tea-party". We attended another soccer game with Khloe then spent our last day in the Seattle area making some final purchases for our Alaska trip. We left the Seattle area on May 12th and headed North to Arlington, WA. Using the Casino Camper website, we stayed a couple nights at the Angel of the Wind casi...

Alaska Trip - Week 2

After leaving Quesnel, we moved another 170 miles to the small town of Mackenzie (May 20th - 21st). We've been moving slowly, ensuring we enjoy the trip. Why drive all day, just to get exhausted? We may have some long stretches, but we're all much happier if we keep our journey to under 4 hours a day. Mackenzie is a little off the main route, 17 miles each way to be exact. But there were two reaso...

Alaska Trip - Weeks 3 to 4

After leaving Whitehorse, we had another day of beautiful scenery. On June 1st, we arrived at a one horse town in the Yukon Territory called Pelly River Crossing. This was just a one-night stop at an abandoned government campground (62.8264, -136.5845). At least it was abandoned while we were there. By morning, there were 5 campers using the campground for the night. However, it looks like they ma...

Alaska Adventure - Weeks 7 and 8

Halibut Fishing

We stayed on the "Spit" at Homer from June 24th - July 8th. As expected, the July 4th holiday weekend was a mad-house in the campground. We enjoyed our stay in Homer, but after a couple weeks, we were ready to move on. During our stay in Homer, we hiked in an Alpine Meadow at the Eveline Recreation Area (where I left off in our previous Blog entry). While visiting the Bear Creek Winery, Larry made...
