April 2007 Travel Log

04/29/07: DorraBelle Campground, Sierra NF, CA: Soon after I wrote my previous entry, we had snow again. Over 3" this time! But that's been the last time and the weather has been great for the past week. We've started the physical labor of working on this campground and do our muscles HURT! We've started by simply clearing the roads and sanitizing the water system. Clearing the roads has involved ...

March 2007 Travel Log

03/25/07: San Louis Obispo, CA: Today's moving day. We're moving another whopping 45 miles to review a couple military campgrounds. Over the past couple days, we've been exploring the area. While the weather hasn't been great, it didn't stop us from visiting Morro Bay, and viewing Morro Rock. We enjoyed a picnic lunch watching and feeding the squirrels and Seagulls. Yesterday, we ventured further ...

January 2006 Travel Log

1/31/06: Patrick AFB, FL: We arrived at Patrick AFB, which is next to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center, a couple days ago. We plan to spend a week or two here. There's plenty to do and see, and I'm sure Connie will be tired of Space Museum's before we leave. We thought there was a Delta rocket launch scheduled (with a weather satellite) for February 6th, but it's being postponed until M...

February 2007 Travel Log

02/19/07: Torrance, CA: The brake parts arrived a few days ago and they got them installed the following morning. Come to find out that the right-rear brakes have NEVER WORKED! They were still brand new, except for some surface rust. For 5 years, we've been using only 3 brakes! They tried to repair the malfunctioning brake, but it seems to be in the ABS. There's no brake fluid at all getting to th...

January 2007 Travel Log

01/29/07: Quartzsite AZ: I know, I should be ashamed of myself (and I am). We were participating in an annual rally with our Boomer friends in Quartzsite, AZ. We were having so much fun and kept busy that I didn't make time to update the website. But I'll make up for it. I recently received an email asking me what our "Boomer" friends were. I know I've explained it here before, but there's a lot h...

February 2006 Travel Log

2/28/06: Summerdale, AL: A couple days ago, we left Mayport, FL, and started heading west again. We're heading to southern Texas to look around for the next month. We stopped for the night in Tallahassee at the Camping World store. From our visit there last month, we knew they had free electric hookups. Just a friendly place to stop for the night, but the store did get a few more of our dollars. A...

March 2006 Travel Log

3/31/06: Big Bend National Park, TX: After a week at Laughlin AFB campground, we moved 20 miles away to Laughlin AFB's marina and campground on Lake Amistad. Nothing exciting happened for those few days. We did see a bunch of wildlife in the campground. The deer didn't seem afraid of us and came to within feet of the motor homes. After leaving the Del Rio area, we arrived in Big Bend National Park...

April 2006 Travel Log

4/30/06: Tucson, AZ: These past few days have been days of meeting old friends. A few days ago, we met John and Kathy Boddy again. We've been playing leap frog with them for the past couple months. We saw them in Texas at a couple places and they beat us to Tucson. Then a couple days ago, we had dinner with fellow Boomers Bob and Ann Peay. They spend their winters in San Carlos, Mexico, where they...

5/27/06: Apache Junction, AZ: Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please take a few moments to remember all of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and way of life. We must never forget. Do you know what an Arizona Dust Devil is? It's a desert mini tornado. Dust devils are created when air near the surface becomes much warmer than the air above. This creates an instability in which the warm a...

June 2006 Travel Log

6/30/06: Keystone, SD: It's been another enjoyable and relaxing week as we drove to our summer workamper positions. We stopped for a couple nights in Cheyenne, WY (FE Warren AFB) to visit Connie's niece, Kari and her family. It was a bit strange to see how the AFB and Cheyenne has changed over the years. FE Warren AFB was our first assignment in the USAF, over 28 years ago. I still think this is o...
