2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure - Cost Breakdown

October 17, 2023 - When we start thinking of another large adventure, we are always concerned about the expense. I greatly appreciate it when other people share their cost breakdown, allowing us to better plan our own trip. If we've inspired you to have your own "Epic" adventure, I thought I'd share our expenses for this trip. I'll also share some of my thoughts on what we could have done bet...

Week 8 (Final Week) - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure - Part Two

Harry Potter Movie Tour - Hogwarts Model

London, England October 2, 2023 - We made a straight drive today for 4+ hours. Our only stop was for a few groceries and lunch. We arrived back at the Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Park in London, which is where we spent our first night. £30 ($38 USD) per night, included showers, electricity, and Wi-Fi. We even got the same pitch as we had before. We'll be here for the next 3 nights. Not much els...

Week 8 (Final Week) - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure - Part One

Edinburgh Castle, Scotand

Edinburgh, Scotland September 29, 2023 - Our second day in Edinburgh was spent riding buses! Yesterday, we had purchased a 48-hour pass on the hop-on hop-off bus system that gave us access to 3 different bus lines and admission to the Edinburgh Castle, and a couple other tourist sites. In the morning, we took an Uber car from our campsite into downtown Edinburgh, Using Uber is so MUCH ea...

Week 7 - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure

Scottish Highland Coo

Durness, NC500, Scotland  September 22, 2023 - Our second day at Sango Sands Oasis Campsite was spent relaxing. It's been raining all day, but we still ventured out to explore the nearby Smoo Cave. Smoo Cave is an active cave being fed by the Allt Smoo stream. A walkway into the waterfall chamber is free of charge. We wanted to take the tour, which goes further into the cave, but to...

Week 6 - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure

One-lane track to Inverness

Wow, time has been flying by. We have 2 weeks left in Scotland, and a week to get back to London for our flight out. We've been really lucky on the weather. The cruise was fantastic weather, with a couple cloudy mornings when at sea. We did get heavy fog in the morning in Iceland, but it burned off by noon. Even here in the United Kingdom, the weather has been very good, with a few nights of ...

Week 5 - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure

Scar Park Motorhome Aire, Scotland

St. Mary's Croft, Scotland September 8, 2023 - After leaving the Hadrian's Wall area, we drove 125 miles to our next stop at an old Royal Air Force Seaplane Base. We're now in Scotland! Friends of ours (The Chouters), who have been traveling Europe for about 5-years, let us know about this place. Part of the old "RAF Wig Bay Seaplane Base" has been turned into a Motorhome Stopover. Simil...

Week 4 - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure

St. Davids, Wales September 1, 2023 - We made camping bookings (reservations) months ago for most of this trip. Normally, I'm not a fan of having a firm reservation, since it forces us to a set schedule and destination. We normally like to "wing it" and stay as long, or as short as we want, and to change locations if we see somewhere else to visit. But on this trip, we decided to play it safe...

Week 3 - 2023 "Lands" Epic Adventure

Our First Night in the Campervan

Rental Campervan When I started researching this adventure, I was looking to rent a campervan. This type of travel has its pros and cons.  Pros: A rental camper allows us the freedom to go where we want, on our own schedule. It is easier to have everything with you, without lugging suitcases around. We can choose to eat in the camper or go out for a meal. I like having a variety of ...
