Our Travel Adventures - Cruising Fulltime

Welcome to the Adventures of Larry and Connie Farquhar as we cruise fulltime around the world.

Grand Falls, AZ

After leaving the Petrified Forest National Park, we drove 90 miles to the Twin Arrows Casino and Resort. This is located near the very small town of Winona, about 20 miles east of Flagstaff, AZ. For my exhaust "regeneration" issue, we read somewhere to drive the motorhome like "we were running from the cops". So I did. Well, I drove it at 75mph (the speed limit) for 20 minutes. I usually dri...

Petrified Forest National Park, AZ

We left Bluewater Lake State Park a couple days ago, but it wasn't without issues. Due to the rain, snow and freezing weather, we had some issues getting out: I forgot to preheat the diesel engine, so it didn't want to start. It was in the mid 20's overnight.Due to the cold and playing the radio all week, the motorhome starting battery was very low and went dead almost immediately. The trickle cha...

Playing Tourists in New Mexico, Part 5

El Malpais National Munument, NM

Last Monday, March 25th, we decided to move up north to Bluewater Lake State Park. We knew it was a risk with the weather, but we were looking for new scenery and new adventures. This State Park only has 14 sites with electric, but another 130+ sites without electric. It was a gamble that paid off. Being early-season, the state park was almost empty. There were only a few electric sites taken...

Playing Tourists in New Mexico, Part 4

Fort Craig, New Mexico

After arriving at the Caballo State Park, NM, we got the last electric site. However, it was in the "lower" section by the river. We spent a week there, then moved to the "upper" section above the lake. These are much prettier sites with a better view. Our site overlooking the lake. We spent a week in the "lower" section and another week in the "upper" section. With a 14-day stay limit in a s...

Playing Tourists in New Mexico, Part 3

Caballo State Park, NM

After leaving Elephant Butte State Park, we headed to the Volunteer Travel Campsites (32.3774, -106.4913) located on the White Sands Missile Range (Army Post). This is a small, 8-site RV Park located on the main portion of the Army post. It's very quiet here, with wonderful views of the Organ Mountains. A pretty good deal for only $10 a night with full hook-ups. It's located between Las Cruces and...

Playing Tourist in New Mexico, Part 2

Our site at Elephant Butte State Park, NM

We've been fairly busy here at Elephant Butte State Park near Truth or Consequences in New Mexico. We got a nice site looking out over the lake, in the distance. There's plenty of "dry-camping" available, either in a developed site or just out in the desert. Some people are even camping out on long sandy points, just a few feet from the water. When we got here a couple weeks ago, it was getting do...

Playing Tourist in New Mexico, Part 1

Fort Bayard Officers Row, circa 1910

While staying at the Pancho Villa State Park in New Mexico, we spent the last 12 days relaxing, working a bit on the computers, and playing tourists. One day, we had a few road-runners chasing each other for hours. I think the female was going to eventually loose that battle. The state park has a nice, small museum explaining what happened in March 1916 with the raid by Mexican General "Pancho" Vi...

Biosphere 2, Arizona

Biosphere 2 near Oracle, AZ

We stayed in Quartzsite for only 20 days this year. When we left on February 5th, we decided to spend the next couple of months in southern New Mexico. We stopped for 3 days at the Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ family campground. This RV Park gets very busy during the winter months, as "snow birds" migrate south away from the cold snow. We were fine with staying in their dry-camp area. During our brief vi...

2019 Travels Begin

Our temporary home in Quartzsite, AZ

We don't like to make many reservations, as it forces us to stick to a schedule. We prefer the freedom to go and stay as long as want, changing plans as needed. A reservation prevents this. However, we know there are certain places and times of the year when a reservation is required. We just weigh our options and "might" make a reservation if it's a busy holiday and there's not many alternatives....
